Facebook merges stories with Messenger Day
For those of you who were confused over why Facebook would have both Stories AND Messanger Day (which is pretty much exactly like stories but inside of Messenger) worry no more because they are now one in the same.
Twitter changes rules for verification check mark, sparks all kinds hot topics on the interwebs
Via TechCrunch. “Now, it says it’s reworking the entire system and has already changed its official guidelines on what verification means, and it’s still not accepting any submissions for verification from the general public.” I personally don’t know if I like this direction they are taking. Originally the checkmark was to help ensure you knew that the profile was authentic. But now they are only giving the checkmark to more celebrity status holders. One of the reasons they are making this move was some people did not like that certain users had checkmarks who were controversial, like a white supremacist. But the problem with taking away a verification checkmark is now, we other’s can open their own accounts under the guise of that person’s name and instead of knowing who the real asshole is, now we just have a ton of fake profiles imitating the real asshole. I personally think that if Twitter is going to take away checkmarks for people using hate speech etc, they ought to just ban them from the network.
Facebook testing out slideshows for covers
It looks like Facebook is testing out slideshows for covers. Some time ago they rolled out videos, but this is a move that will make it much easier for people to have a moving cover image created right on the platform. Do you have this feature yet?
Facebook test custom filters in stories
Last week while playing in my Facebook stories on my android I discovered that Facebook is testing the ability to create custom masks. I played around with this and it is very easy and pretty fun to do. Distort your face, add overlays and words and even save for later. Recently I went in to see if it was still there and the feature was gone. So it is unknown if Facebook will indeed roll this out in the future.
LinkedIn is now giving advertisers more ways to obtain user information by making it easier to gather leads and have users opt-in. according to LinkedIn’s blog announcement “With Lead Gen Forms for Sponsored InMail, advertisers can improve the conversion rates of their Sponsored InMail campaigns while collecting quality lead data at scale—including a prospect’s name, email address, job title, company name, and select other fields from their LinkedIn profile. In our beta tests, advertisers using Lead Gen Forms for Sponsored InMail saw their mobile conversion rates increase by an average of 3x when compared to standard landing pages.”
Now that Twitter allows users to use up to 280 characters when they tweet they have made one other change that I can get behind: Allowing users to have up to 50 characters for display names. So now I can have my name listed as Kelly Noble Mirabella rather than Kelly Mirabella, which I prefer to help stay consistent with my personal brand.
To be honest friends and listeners, there was plenty more to report on but as it stands I am not sure my voice can take too much more strain…So until next time, thank you so much for listening and have a great weekend!
