Facebook rolled out an update for Facebook stories.

Now the stories feature within Facebook has the option for your content to be public. Stories can now be seen by your friends and by the people who follow your public posts.

Facebook still will not say when or IF stories will be available to business pages, even though marketers are jumping a the bit to utilize them. On a personal note, I don’t understand why businesses are so eager to use an option that is not seeing a whole lot of growth or engagement. I think more people are invested in the stories features on Instagram (with now 250 million users for stories alone) or Snapchat and using Facebook stories on top of all that may be too much of a stretch for most. If people are already not watching them, why would Facebook unleash them to the marketers that are notorious for ruining platforms with over promotion? But further, why would a marketer want to waste time on a medium with little potential?

Facebook is testing out a badges feature for group admins.

Basically what this would do is create an admin badge overlaying an admin’s profile photo. This would allow for that admin to engage in their group with more significance and authority. I personally LOVE this idea and welcome it with arms wide open!

 

Facebook has made a news feed algorithm update giving preference to post with urls that link to websites that load faster.

This is not to say that Facebook is giving overall preference in the newsfeed to link post, but if you are going to share a url, do it to a fast loading website! Load time and mobile readability has continued to grow in importance over the years so make sure you are keeping up and do what you can to optimize your website.

Instagram stories has hit 250 million daily users after only a year since being rolled out.

This means Instagram stories has now surpassed the 166 million daily users on Snapchat! According to reports by Social Media Examiner: Stories has “helped increase the amount of time people spend on Instagram,” especially among users younger than age 25 who spend more than 32 minutes a day on Instagram. on average. Meanwhile, those age 25 and older spend more than 24 minutes a day using Instagram Stories, which surpasses Snapchat’s usage claims cited in its recent IPO filing.”  (Read More here)
